The Derby Heritage Centre was opened on February 24, 2024 and champions all that is good and great about Derby and Derbyshire - whether that is its history and heritage, our wonderful creatives or our local food and drink.

For quite some time now we've heard the mantra telling us to shop local, but did you ever think that maybe the current model of shopping local is in fact broken beyond repair?

Let's give you an example.

You might decide to pop down to 'Bob's Shop'. It's a local, independent shop after all.

Once in there you spend £100 and walk away feeling happy at the money that you've put into the local economy.

The thing is that Bob gets most of his stock in from outside the local area - and that's where a large chunk of your money ended up when Bob paid his suppliers.
